PROGRAM TO BE HOSTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT AND CONDUCTED OCTOBER

K-9 UNIT MANAGEMENT

A two-day seminar basic seminar for new or soon to be assigned K-9 unit
managers whether in law enforcement, corrections, military, security type work. Topics
include: (1) establishing a K-9 unit or augmenting an existing one; (2) establishing
K-9 unit policies; (3) legal use of K-9 units; (4) maintaining records; (5) selecting
personnel for the unit; (6) using outside consultants for training; (7) working with
community groups to promote understanding regarding the need for a unit; (8) maintaining
health records and preventing illness of the dogs; (9) selecting dogs; (10) supervising
the unit; and (11) where and when K-9s can best be used. NOTE: This program will
not involve manwork so there is no need to bring dogs. INSTRUCTOR: Barry
Stamp, former commanding officer of the K-9 Unit for the Miami Beach Police Department
in Miami Beach, Florida.
DATE / LOCATION / TIME
Seminar will be
conducted October 14-15, 2008 on the campus of the University of Miami in
Coral Gables, Florida. Plan to report to the Flamingo Ballroom A, Whitten University
Center, 1306 Stanford Drive. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each
program day.
FEE:
$295 per person. Agencies enrolling three or
more personnel in this program are entitled to claim a 15% team discount.

your registration with the appropriate purchase order or purchase order number to

you cannot attend the program, you must notify Benchmark Professional Seminars, Inc.
at (302) 654-9091 by the same October 7, 2008 date or a refund cannot be processed.
Failure to do so will obligate your agency to pay the registration fee. Substitutions
may be made at any time, including the opening session of the program. Mastercard

and request the special $99 per evening, single or double plus tax rate. This is
based on room availability and is subject to change without notice. Be advised that
this rate will be withdrawn thirty days prior to the opening session of the program..
