HANDLING EMERGENCY CALLS FOR POLICE SERVICE FROM HISPANIC INDIVIDUALS: A SEMINAR FOR COMMUNICATION CENTER PERSONNEL
January 13-14, 2009
This program is designed to provide the communication center call-taker. It will provide information on how to obtain critical information from Hispanic speaking citizens. The monologue learned by students in this program will enhance the emergency telecommunicator's ability to narrowly identify the requirements of the caller, while controlling the conversation, determining the services needed and providing the appropriate response. Topics include: (1) alphabet and pronunciation guides; (2) Latin American culture as it relates to the emergency telecommunicator and/or call- taker; (3) civil liability concerns and recent cases; (4) determining in Spanish, the requirements of the caller, provide the service and officer safety; (5) key phrases and words to use to control the conversation; (6) key phrases on how to direct specific answers in a polite manner; (7) determining the location of an incident; (8) obtaining the description of the suspect


DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted January 13-14, 2009 at the Essex County College Police Academy, 250 Grove Avenue, Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.daily.

FEE: $295 per person . Agencies enrolling three or more personnel in this program are entitled to claim a 15% team discount.
