SHOOTING INCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION
April 1-2, 2009
A basic seminar designed for forensic firearm and toolmark examiners, crime scene technicians, police investigators, attorneys, and insurance investigators. Program will focus on the protocols, methodology and usage of various techniques and equipment that might be used in the processing of crime scenes where there has been a shooting. Topics include: (1) determining the class characteristics of evidence items such as shotshell casings, bullets, and cartridge cases; (2) trajectory/penetration determinations using various mediums including wood, sheet metal, glass, double-wall sheet rock and vehicles; (3) methods and types of equipment used to determine trajectory such as wood/metal dowel rods, string, trajectory kits with lasers and chemical tests; (4) muzzle-to-target distance determinations consisting of gunshot residues and shotgun pattern analysis; (5) possible ejection patterns of cartridge cases and shotshell casing; (6) courtroom testimony pertaining to shooting reconstruction; and (7) tips on report writing and documentation.

LETTER OF VIRGINIA IN-SERVICE TRAINING CREDIT TRANSFER. This program is being hosted by the Richmond Police Training Academy. Individuals interested in receiving transfer of training credit should contact Lt. William Meadows at (804) 646-6121.

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted April 1-2, 2009 at the Richmond Police Training Academy, 1202 West Graham Road in Richmond, Virginia.. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..each day.

FEE: $295 per person. Agencies enrolling three or more personnel in this program may claim a 15% team discount.
