ANNOUNCING A TWO-DAY SEMINAR TO BE CONDUCTED ON APRIL 6-7, 2009 AT THE SEBASTIAN POLICE DEPARTMENT IN SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA. PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR PERSONNEL WHO FUNCTION AS CALL-TAKERS OR DISPATCHERS AND WHO NEED AN UNDERSTANDING OF BASIC SPANISH WORDS AND PHRASES WHEN CONTACTED FOR SERVICE CALLS BY HISPANIC INDIVIDUALS.

RECEIVING AND DISPATCHING CALLS FOR SERVICE FROM HISPANIC PERSONS
April 6-7, 2009
This program is designed to provide the communication center call-taker. It will provide information on how to obtain critical information from Hispanic speaking citizens. The monologue learned by students in this program will enhance the emergency telecommunicator's ability to narrowly identify the requirements of the caller, while controlling the conversation, determining the services needed and providing the appropriate response. Topics include: (1) A quick reference handout to use while at work along with an audio-tape; (2) Alphabet and pronunciation/handout and cassette tape; (3) Latin American culture as it relates to the emergency telecommunicator and/or call- taker; (4) civil liability concerns and recent cases; (5) determining in Spanish, the requirements of the caller, provide the service and officer safety; (6) key phrases and words to use to control the conversation; (7) key phrases on how to direct specific answers in a polite manner; (8) determining the location of an incident; (9) obtaining the description of the suspect.

DATE/LOCATION/TIME
Program will be conducted April 6-7, 2009 at the Sebastian Police Department, 1201 Main Street in Sebastian, Florida. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

FEE
$295 per person. Agencies that enroll three or more personnel may claim a 15% team discount..

Failure to do so will obligate your agency to pay the registration fee. Substitution may be made at any time, including the opening session of the program you plan to attend. It is suggested that you make reservations no less than one month prior to the opening session of the program.
